What is the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) and can I claim it?

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) is a UK government scheme that pays you for excess electricity your solar panels export to the grid. To be eligible your installer must be MCS certified — Sun Magnet Solar Ltd is MCS certified, so all our installations qualify. SEG rates typically range from 3p to 15p per kWh exported.

How much can I save on my electricity bills with solar panels in Norfolk?

A typical 4kW solar system in Norfolk generates around 3,500–4,000 kWh per year. Combined with SEG export payments, most households save £600–£1,200 per year. Our customers have reported reducing electricity bills by over 70% in summer months.

How long do solar panels last in the UK?

Modern solar panels are designed to last 25–30 years or more. Sun Magnet Solar Ltd provides a 30-year performance warranty on all panels. Output typically degrades by less than 0.5% per year, so a system installed today will still be producing around 85% of its original output after 25 years.

Do solar panels work in winter or on cloudy days in Norfolk?

Yes — solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. They continue to produce power on overcast days. Norfolk averages around 1,700–1,800 sunshine hours per year, one of the highest in England, making it an excellent location for solar even in winter.

What is the payback period for solar panels in Norfolk?

For most Norfolk homeowners the payback period is 7–10 years depending on system size, energy usage, and whether battery storage is included. After payback you generate essentially free electricity for the remaining life of the system — typically 25 years or more.

No — solar panel installations in the UK are currently zero-rated for VAT (0% VAT). This applies to the supply and installation of solar panels, battery storage, and associated equipment on residential properties. Sun Magnet Solar Ltd prices are all inclusive with no VAT to pay.
